I’ve just added a new set of drawings and collages! Have a look:

All of these are available as prints and postcards, and in some cases the original artwork is also for sale. Every penny still goes to Haiti through Artists for Peace and Justice! To read what difference the money is making, have a look at the news posts. And please help spread the word!

It’s been almost a year and a half since the earthquake. Streets are still covered in rubble. Hundreds of thousands of people are still living in tent camps. Cholera is still taking lives. Hurricanes and floods make it even harder for the Haitians to stay safe and healthy.

But there is a lot of amazing work going on! The cholera center is saving a lot of lives. Meanwhile, APJ is putting a lot of work in building and expanding the Academy for Peace and Justice, the only free secondary school providing the children of the slums of Port-au-Prince with the education they need to serve their country. You can follow the progress via the APJ Tumblr.

Don’t want to sit still and just watch them do it all? Me neither! Here’s how you can help make a difference for the new generation in Haiti!

Art is a great opportunity to support Haiti. It is something that speaks to people of all languages, conveys messages that words can’t express and inspires people. That’s why I chose to use my art to raise money for Haiti by donating all proceeds to APJ.

There will be a new round of artwork added to (HE)ART FOR HAITI soon, including more portrait drawings, but also collages and digital art. As always, you will be able to purchase prints as well as original art. Any specific requests or suggestions? Bring them in!

CHOLERA RELIEF WORK:

Olivia Wilde and Dr. Reza Nabavian give us a look inside one of the tents where cholera patients are treated. The work they do is really amazing but also really difficult. As the cholera spreads through Port-au-Prince, the number of patients - children in particular - is increasing. The disease turns a healthy child into a dehydrated skeleton in mere hours. They need our help before this turns into an even bigger disaster than the earthquake!

As you may know, a cholera epidemic is spreading in Haiti. People get it by drinking contaminated water, which is simply the only water they have. With your financial contribution, water filters can be installed to stop the bacteria from spreading so quickly. Also, the medical teams can provide therapy (like oral rehydration solution - sugar and salt saves lives!), food and further assistance to those that are suffering from the disease.

THE ACADEMY FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE

In Haiti, 6th grade was the standard limit of education. But Artists for Peace and Justice has begun to build beyond! In the past couple of months, a team has been working hard to build the first free middle and secondary school in Port-au-Prince. Last month the Academy for Peace and Justice opened its doors, welcoming about 200 seventh-graders and providing them with a safe environment to learn, as well as two meals and clean water. Eventually, the campus will grow to house 1400 students in grades 7-13, and they will incorporate a great variety of learning programs including sports, arts, agriculture and medical assistance. Making this investment in these children is key to the rebuilding of their lives and their country.

As promised, this is a scan of the receipt for the first donation! Thanks to all who ordered and helped spread the word for making this possible. This money is going directly to people that need it most!

(You may notice that the amount is slightly lower than the $600 that I transferred - these were costs that the back deducted because it was an international transfer. In the future, I will chip in an extra little bit of money to make it all add up again.)

The first round of prints have been shipped! And another order came in. I hope to keep this going and add some new artwork in the near future. Let’s not forget about Haiti!

I also have an update on the financial side: the first donation of $600/€440 seems to have made it off of my bank account and across the pond! (I’ve asked for a receipt, should be coming up.)

The prints will be mailed this week - there was a bit of delay with the prints due to a technical problem - sorry about that! I finally have all the prints ready to go now. I’ll let you know when they’re on their way, so stay tuned!

In the meantime, I haven’t received any new orders, so I decided to donate the proceeds to Artists for Peace and Justice. The total amount of money raised is $600 or €440 (the dollar/euro exchange rate shifted a bit, but I took the liberty to round it up). The money should reach them by the end of the week.

I am personally really excited to be able to donate such an amount of money, and I just wanted to say thank you (again, haha) - especially to those who ordered prints, postcards and original drawings, and of course to those who helped spread the word! The people in Haiti are undoubtedly going to need every penny, and I’m really glad that you were willing to help and contribute.
